Design Before Specification

A bespoke lighting plan is the foundation of every exceptional outdoor installation. Our design process ensures that every fixture serves both the architecture and the atmosphere of your property.

Most outdoor lighting installations are specification-first: fixtures are selected from a catalog and placed where they fit, rather than where the design demands them.

Our approach begins differently. Before a single fixture is named, we develop a comprehensive understanding of your property — its architecture, landscape, circulation, and the atmosphere you intend to create. A detailed photometric lighting plan emerges from that understanding: a precise document that your architect, builder, and landscape contractor can work from with complete confidence.

Design is not a prelude to our work — it is our work.

What You Gain

The Benefits of Working With Us

Integrated from the Start

Lighting designed in concert with architecture and landscape avoids the compromises that come from retrofit installations — fixtures emerge from the design, not from afterthought.

Professional Documentation

Our photometric plans are produced to professional standards — compatible with architectural drawings, CAD systems, and contractor bid packages.

Budget Clarity

A complete design document allows for accurate pricing, phasing, and value engineering — eliminating the uncertainty that arises from undefined scope.

Trade Collaboration

We work fluidly alongside your architect, landscape architect, and interior lighting designer — coordinating specifications and avoiding conflicts before they reach the field.

Future-Ready Systems

Properly designed systems accommodate expansion, technology upgrades, and landscape changes — because we design for the property's future, not just its present state.

Specification Confidence

Every fixture we specify is selected for its specific application — not from a preferred vendor list. The result is a system that performs exactly as designed for decades.

Ideal For

New Construction

The ideal engagement for lighting design is before the first shovel enters the ground — allowing conduit provisions, mounting locations, and transformer positions to be integrated into the construction documents.

Major Renovation

Significant renovations offer an opportunity to rethink the entire exterior lighting approach — replacing piecemeal systems with a comprehensive, integrated design that serves the updated architecture.

Trade Collaboration

Architects, custom builders, and landscape designers who engage us early receive a lighting design partner who speaks their language — providing documentation that integrates seamlessly with their project delivery process.

Our Philosophy

The Plan Is the Foundation

The quality of an outdoor lighting installation is determined largely before installation begins. A well-developed design plan prevents field improvisation, eliminates costly changes, and ensures that every fixture serves a deliberate purpose.

Our designers have developed lighting plans for some of the most significant residential properties in Texas — working alongside architects at firms who demand documentation that meets their professional standards.

We deliver not just a lighting plan, but the confidence that comes from having thought through every detail in advance — so that what arrives on the property matches precisely what was imagined.

Our Deliverable

Complete. Buildable. Precise.

How It Works

A Process Built on Intention

01

Design Brief

We meet with you and your design team to develop a complete lighting brief — understanding the architecture, landscape, atmosphere goals, and any system integration requirements.

Half Day

02

Site Documentation

We document the property in detail — photographing elevations, measuring distances, and reviewing architectural drawings to ensure our plan is built on accurate information.

03

Plan Development

The photometric plan is developed: fixture positions are mapped, beam angles calculated, wattages specified, and control zones defined.

2–3 Weeks

04

Design Review

We present the completed design to you and your team, walking through every decision and incorporating feedback before finalizing for construction.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The earlier the better — ideally during schematic design, when conduit provisions can be integrated into the construction documents. However, we regularly engage during design development and construction documents phases with excellent results.

Our plans include site plan overlays showing fixture positions and aiming directions, fixture schedules with manufacturer and model specifications, transformer sizing calculations, control zone maps, and narrative descriptions of design intent for each zone.

Yes — we offer standalone design services for projects where installation will be handled by another contractor or phased over time. Our design documents are produced to a standard that any qualified outdoor lighting contractor can bid against.

We participate in design team meetings, respond to RFIs, provide lighting specifications in CSI format when required, and coordinate with other consultants to ensure our scope integrates seamlessly with the broader project.
